8/22/1922Alluri Seetaram Raju inspired and organised the tribals to wage a war against the British. Raju's army raided Chintapalli police station and there was regular warfare between him and the British forces.
7/4/1897Nanaksingh, famous Punjabi novelist, was born in a Hindu family in village Chak Hamid, Tehsil Dadan Khan, District Jhelum (now in Pakistan).
4/2/1679Aurangzeb reimposed Jizya Tax to finance the spread of Islam on the Hindus.This Jeziya tax was abolished by Akbar.
8/30/1979Earl Louis Mountbatten of Burma, a World War II hero, last British Viceroy in India and the first Governor General of independent India, was killed when Irish terrorists exploded his family fishing boat off the coast of Ireland. The Provisional wing of the Irish Republican Army immediately took credit for the killing, which it described as 'an execution' designed to further 'the noble struggle to drive the British intruders out of our native land'.
7/16/1856Ishwar Chand Vidyasagar, on the request of Governor Lord Canning, instituted a law announcing the right of Hindu widows for re-marriage.
7/26/1614Jahangir captured Mewar from Rana Amar Singh. A treaty was signed. In the Mughal court, Rana and his son were treated with exceptional courtesy.
