9/8/1982Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Kashmir, who dominated the political scene of Jammu and Kashmir for 50 years, died. He was 77.
3/10/1897Savitri Bai Phule passed away. She played a prominent role in assisting her husband Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule in education field. She taught in schools for girls and for downtroddens and untouchables.
