11/28/1967Pandurang Mahadev Bapat ""Senapati Bapat"", revolutionary and social reformer, passed away at the age of 89. He led the famous ""Mulshi Satyagraha"" and played a significant role in the struggle for Samyukta Maharashtra and took part in Goa liberation movement.

4/13/1919Jallianwala Baug massacre. The great Indian tragedy occured in Amritsar which claimed 389 lives and wounded 1,516 activitists fighting for Indian independence. Early in 1919, the Rowlatt Act (Black Act) was passed. This authorized the Government to imprison any person without any trial and conviction in a court of law. This furious act was under the guidence of cruel Brigedier General R. E. H. Dyer and his 50 men troop. Michael O' Dwyer was then the Governor of Punjab who naturally defended the action. This day is observed as Jallianwala Baug Day.

2/23/1962The Cholera Research Centre was established at Calcutta (renamed as the National Institute of Cholera & Enteric Diseases in 1979).
8/16/1946Hindus and Muslims riot in Calcutta. 90 people lost their lives and other 900 were hurt. The Muslim League observed a ""Direct Action Day"" and announced its withdrawal of support from all plans.
