Historical Event on 8/25/1917

The first significant step towards the Indianization of the Army was initiated when seven selected Indians, serving in the Army, were granted King's Commission in the Infantry and the Cavalry. Before the World War ended, two more Indians, who previously held temporary commissions, were granted King's Commission.

8/15/1854The first train of the East Indian Railways steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hoogly, which was at a distance of 24 miles. It was the first passenger train catering to public traffic. Officially, it was inaugurated in 1855.
8/29/1998Prasar Bharti ordinance promulgated.
11/5/1951Western Railways and Central Railways were formed in Bombay; seperate Time Tables were setup.
