9/8/1947There was little time to celebrate independence in India and Pakistan as large parts of the dominions were paralyzed with fear. Mobs ran wild as Muslims and Hindus battled to death and turned streets into rivers of blood.

6/9/1967Narayan Shripad Rajhans, alias Bal Gandharva, went into a coma in Bombay and never regained his consciousness.

The first film censored and granted a Censor Certificate No. 1 was a short film of 600 ft., produced by Gaumont Company and it was titled as 'Gaumont Graphic No. 963-964'. The Regional Film Censor Boards were also set-up in Calcutta, Madras and Rangoon.
2/14/1994The controversial Supreme Court Judge V.Ramaswami, who survived an impeachment motion in Parliament, retires.
4/26/1858Kunwar Singh, revolutionary of Indian mutiny and freedom fighter, passed away. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur, Bihar on April 23, 1858 and defeated the Britishers but was deeply wounded. He also organised the national rebels.
